Church History

Star Baptist Church first began as First Baptist Church of Star in 1906 on a site just south of the present church campus.  It later became known as Star Baptist.  Later a new brick building replaced the wood frame church.  The brick church caught fire on the morning of February 13, 1994.  That Sunday morning the congregation gathered and prayed among the smoldering embers asking God for direction.  The church began meeting at Rankin Academy for worship and Sunday School.  The offices were located in a portable church building given for use by the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board.  New property adjacent to Rankin Academy was purchased and contruction began.  The present church building was completed and dedicated on August 12, 1996.  Rankin Academy would close it's doors that same year and the church would purchase the property to become used as a Christian Life Center and classroom space.  In 2005 the newly renovated Star Baptist Church Christian Life Center opened.  This faciltiy features a basketball court, raised walking track, full kitchen, library and multiple rooms presently used for exercising, a library and other recreational activities.  In 2006 when Hurrican Katrina caused damage to so many homes on our coast we opened this faciltiy as a Red Cross Shelter and ministered to many for several weeks.  God has used each event in the history of this church to bring glory to His name.    It is our desire to be used by God in any way He directs.
